08/25/2018 7:30pm 08/25/2018 10:30pm Hindustani Classical Music - Instrumental Melbourne Hindustani Classical Music Society is pleased to present instrumental recitals by Melbourne based musicians David Balaban (Sitar) and Anand Thakore (Mandolin), accompanied by Venkat Narayanan (Tabla). David Balaban has been learning the Sitar in the "Gayaki Ang", "Vilayat Khan style" for 15 years. His 3 principal gurus have all learned under the late Sarod player Pandit Radhika Mohan Maitra. David performs regularly around Melbourne and is also a well regarded Sitar teacher. Anand Thakore recently moved to Melbourne from Auckland. He is an extraordinarily talented Mandolin player steeped in the Guru-Shishya tradition. Venkat Narayanan is a well known Tabla player around Melbourne, and has accompanied most of Melbourne's Hindustani classical vocalists and instrumentalists.
