Founded in 1974, and based in Camberwell since the early 1990s, AGRA has brought realist art into the Australian spotlight for well over forty years. In 2000, they instituted an annual competition – the Australian Art Excellence Award – and you'll have the rare opportunity to see the winning works of the past 19 years. This exhibition offers an opportunity to see how an artist’s practice evolves over time. Realist paintings from the Town Hall Gallery Collection also feature in this exhibition. Featuring: Joe Attard, Kathlyn Ballard, Barbara Beasley-Southgate, Julian Bruere, Christina Cafarella-Pearce, William Dargie, Diana Edwards, Betina Fauvel-Ogden, Ev Hales, Kenneth Jack, Di King, Robert Knight, Elena Kolotusha, Walter Magilton, Vicki McInnes, Barbara McManus, Anne Melloy, Terrianne Murray, Raelene Sharp and Malcolm Webster. Off the Leash by Emily Shannon Whether they run to you or from you, it’s impossible to escape the canines in our community. With over a third of Australian households owning a dog, Emily Shannon’s digitally created hand-drawn prints celebrate the pups of Boroondara, but with a difference. These pooches have been juxtaposed with human apparel. Is it a dog in a human coat or a human in a dog coat? Who has dominion over whom? Is there something distinctly human expressed in the nurture of our ‘fur babies’? Come take a walk Off the Leash with these quirky, vibrant, humanised hounds. , City of Boroondara [email protected] Australia/Melbourne public
