Playing an outdoor game like bocce, croquet, petanque or lawn bowls can be a great way to get fit while having fun and meeting new friends.


Bocce is a game which involves players rolling an unbiased ball so it stops closest to the “jack”. U3A Hawthorn's Bocce Group runs regular games with tutor assistance.


Croquet is a sport that involves hitting plastic or wooden balls with a mallet through hoops in the ground. Kew Croquet Club runs regular sessions most days of the week.

Petanque is a form of boules where the goal is to toss or roll hollow steel balls as close as possible to a small wooden ball, while standing inside a circle with both feet on the ground. Camberwell Petanque Club runs regular sessions for fun and fitness.
