Our website will be unavailable from 5 to 8 pm on Tuesday 23 April due to planned maintenance. 

Our Maternal and Child Health (MCH) service is committed to providing helpful and effective support, information and advice to parents with young children. This is for families who live, work or study in the City of Boroondara.

In 2020, MCH marked 100 years of service to the City of Boroondara.

Contacting a MCH nurse

When you contact a MCH nurse, we will:

  • provide a prompt and efficient service with approachable, specialist staff
  • answer your call promptly and treat all clients with courtesy and respect
  • value client privacy and treat all personal information confidentially
  • make correspondence clear, address all your issues and include relevant contact details
  • provide an inclusive service, offering interpreter and translation services in languages other than English and for people with a hearing or vision impairment.

We may use your personal information for reporting purposes. For example, we may provide age or ethnic background details as required under the funding requirements of the Department of Education and Training in accordance with the  Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 and the Health Records Act 2001.

Our service standards

When we're notified of your baby's birth, we will:

  • schedule a home visit by a MCH nurse, ideally within 10 days of the birth
  • send you a welcome pack including information on our services and contact details
  • call you to confirm home visit details, usually the day before the visit.

Giving feedback

We welcome your suggestions on how we can improve our services and value your feedback. We'll listen to any concerns you have and aim to resolve them efficiently and fairly. If we can't meet your expectations, we'll explain why.
