The Minister of Local Government capped most Councils' rates at a 2.0% increase in 2017-18.

This means the total rate of revenue we raise can only increase by a maximum of 2.0% per year, but your rates amount would only rise by the full 2.0% if your property's value had increased by 27.74% since its 2014 revaluation.

Example

For example, property 1 below receives a lower percentage increase in its general rate compared to property 2 because its percentage increase in capital improved property value is lower.
