The Minister of Local Government capped most Councils' rates at a 2.25% increase in 2018-19.

This means the total rate of revenue we raise can only increase by a maximum of 2.25% this year, but your general rates amount would only rise by the full 2.25% if your property’s value had increased by 15.87% since its 2016 revaluation.

Example

For example, property 1 below receives a lower percentage increase in its general rate compared to property 2 because its percentage increase in capital improved property value is lower.
