Over Easter (Friday 19 to Monday 22 April) and on Anzac Day (Thursday 25 April), some of our services and centres may be closed or have different hours. Please see details of all affected services.

We are redesigning and rebuilding a brand new Ashburton Seniors Centre with the aim of creating a space that is easily accessible, and better suited to deliver the activities and services the seniors in our community need.

Status

Construction will commence in May 2019 and the renewal works will take at least 12 months to complete.

About the project

Hundreds of people enjoy activities at the current centre every week, through a range of diverse programs and interest groups and events.

However, the building is more than 50 years old and is no longer able to meet the growing and changing needs of seniors in the community, or deliver all of the activities and services that are needed.

The current layout does not allow for flexible activity spaces and the lower level is unsuitable for seniors’ activities.

The new age-friendly centre will be a contemporary and accessible facility that will provide opportunities for senior residents to form social connections and participate in life-long learning, both of which can have tremendously positive effects on an individual’s overall health and wellbeing.

Temporary relocations

During construction, activities that currently take place at 296 High Street, Ashburton will be relocated to temporary accommodation built on the Ashburton Bowls Club Car park (enter via Samarinda Ave) .

The Meals on Wheels service will continue to be delivered to residents in the area.

For further information on any of the activities or meals on wheels service on, contact Samarinda Ashburton Aged Services directly on 03 9092 0997.

Delivering what’s important to you

This project is delivering on the Boroondara Community Plan 2017-27, Council’s key strategic document for the next decade. When creating the plan, Council consulted widely and 11,845 responses told us clearly that you value well-maintained public places where people of all ages and backgrounds can interact, learn and be active.
