We've completed the streetscape design and the first stage of construction, focusing on the intersection of Ridgeway Avenue. We fast-tracked these extended footpath works to support the re-opening of nearby businesses under COVID-19 restrictions.
We'll be starting the second stage of construction from May 2021.
As part of the Shopping Centre Improvement Plan, we're improving the streetscape of Cotham Village Shopping Centre in Kew to enhance its appearance and character, and to create a pedestrian-friendly environment.
During consultation, the key design themes that came up included:
- add more greenery
- create a sense of place and identity
- improve wayfinding
- calm traffic.
|March and April 2020||Community consultation||
We asked the community for feedback on the design
|October and November 2020||Stage 1 construction||Construction completed: intersection of Ridgeway Avenue|
|May 2021||Stage 2 construction||Remaining construction|
To make sure the works are completed safely and efficiently, we'll be restricting some access to parking in the nearby area if required. Pedestrian access to shops won't be affected.
In Stage 1, we:
- built a raised threshold across Ridgeway Avenue to give pedestrians a safer and more accessible path
- enlarged the outdoor dining area and created a new garden bed outside Centonove restaurant, on the western side of Ridgeway Avenue.
We'll be completing streetscape improvement works from early May 2021. We are doing this during winter to minimise disruptions to local businesses.
