Hilda Street Playground Renewal

As part of our Playgrounds Development Strategy, in December 2022 we completed our upgrade of the playground at Hilda Street Reserve in Balwyn.

Status

The key themes we heard from the community feedback were:

• We would love an equipment upgrade
• We love swings
• Please include monkey bars

• We love nature and animal themes!

• We love combination units and look forward to upgrades

• The track glide is a favourite

About the project

We held a community consultation seeking ideas to help inform the new playground’s design in April 2021.

The new playground design includes the themes most popular with the community:

• A new combination unit featuring a rope bridge, inclined cat walk, junior and senior swings and a fire pole
• A variety of new swings, including a toddler seat, a sling seat and a basket seat
• Interactions with nature including balancing logs, rock hopping and timber stumps
• Monkey bars and a track glide
• A bucket spinner.

New pavers between the main path and the picnic settings and some playground equipment are included to improve accessibility for wheelchairs and limited mobility users.

Tree health at Hilda Street Reserve

Please note our Tree team are currently reviewing the health and structure of some of the trees within Hilda Street Reserve.

Some tree works or removals may be required to be undertaken and the community will be updated if these are deemed necessary prior to these works taking place.

The trees works are not connected to the playground renewal works and may be undertaken at any time over the next 18 months. If a tree is deemed to be a safety issue and is required to be removed, it will be offset by a replacement within the same vicinity.
