We are upgrading the Rathmines Road Reserve pavilion, which is currently used for junior, senior and women’s football and cricket.
About the project
The Rathmines Road Reserve Pavilion is undergoing an internal refurbishment and external additions to renew the pavilion and help it meet the needs of the sporting clubs, and for increased junior and female sport participation.
The $2.2 million project budget includes a $280,000 Federal Department of Health grant secured by the local sporting clubs.
The existing building footprint will remain, with a 40sqm addition to the south end of the building, and a 4sqm addition to the east end of the building. The first floor level will provide a multipurpose community space, kitchen and amenities space, which is being increased to match the existing ground floor footprint.
The Rathmines Road Reserve Pavilion is subject to a heritage overlay. The results of a heritage review carried out a part of the planning application required the oval side (north elevation) to retain its original character.
Alterations to the south end of the pavilion are permitted, and Council’s Heritage Advisor has assessed the additions and alterations to the south end as appropriate and sympathetic to the heritage precinct.
