We have upgraded the Rathmines Reserve pavilion, which is currently used for junior, senior and women’s football and cricket.
Status
Construction commenced in June 2021 and was completed in April 2022. The pavilion was officially opened by Mayor of Boroondara, Councillor Jane Addis, and Ward Councillor Felicity Sinfield on Saturday 23 July 2022.
About the project
The Rathmines Reserve Pavilion underwent an internal refurbishment as well as external additions. The renewed pavilion will help to meet the needs of the sporting clubs and support increased junior and female sport participation.
The $2.2 million project budget included a $280,000 Federal Department of Health grant secured by the local sporting clubs.
The existing building footprint remained, with a 40 sqm addition to the south end of the building, and a 4 sqm addition to the east end of the building. The first-floor level provides a multi-purpose community space, kitchen, and amenities space, which has been increased to match the existing ground floor footprint.
The Rathmines Reserve Pavilion is subject to a heritage overlay. The results of a heritage review carried out as part of the planning application required the oval side (north elevation) to retain its original character.
Alterations to the south end of the pavilion were carried out, and Council’s Heritage Advisor assessed the additions and alterations to the south end as appropriate and sympathetic to the heritage precinct.
