We are redesigning and rebuilding a brand new Ashburton Seniors Centre with the aim of creating a space that is easily accessible, and better suited to deliver the activities and services the seniors in our community need.

Status

Construction is now underway and is expected to be completed by mid-2020.

Temporary accommodation at the Ashburton Bowls Club car park is now complete and functional. From Monday 26 August 2019 all services, activities and programs delivered at the Ashburton Seniors Centre will take place at the temporary accommodation as normal throughout the construction period.

About the project

Ashburton Seniors Centre will be completely redeveloped to enhance and support the lifestyles of hundreds of over 55s that use the centre each week. The new building will create spaces which will be easily accessible to deliver the many activities and services the community needs.

The former building was over 50 years old and could longer meet the growing and changing needs of over 55s in the community. The building layout did not allow for flexible activity spaces and the lower level was not suitable for activities for older people.

The new fit-for-purpose centre will be a contemporary and accessible facility, providing opportunities for older residents to form social connections and participate in life-long learning, both of which can have tremendously positive effects on an individual’s overall health and wellbeing.
