City of Boroondara (Council) is currently consulting with the community on a proposal to amend Council’s Order (made under Section 26 of the Domestic Animals Act 1994) to establish the area set aside within Gordon Barnard Reserve (between the existing pool and eastern oval) as a fenced, designated dog off-leash area. This proposal is in accordance with the Council resolution made at the Services Special Committee Meeting held on 10 August 2020, to proceed with the development of a fenced dog play area at this location.
Community consultation for the fenced dog play area occurred during March 2020 and the results were presented at the meeting on 10 August 2020. For further information on the results of the consultation, please contact Council’s Environment and Sustainable Living Department on 9278 4060.

Council is now seeking community feedback on the proposal to amend the Order as previously described, to coincide with the development of the fenced dog play area, and invites you to comment.
Within the fenced dog play area, dogs will be able to be exercised off a chain, cord or leash if the owner or other person who has custody of the dog carries a chain, cord or leash sufficient to bring the dog under effective control if the dog behaves in a manner in which threatens any person or animal.
The proposed amendment to the Order can be viewed on Council’s website.
Written submissions must be received via the ‘Have your Say’ page on Council’s website, or via email to [email protected] no later than 5.00pm on Sunday 20 September, 2020.
The community will be informed of the date, time and place of any meeting to hear submissions on this matter.
