Boroondara City Council considered the Proposed Budget 2021-22 (including Mayoral and Councillor allowances) and proposed Revenue and Rating Plan 2021-2025 at its Council meeting on Monday 26 April 2021.
Public Notice for the proposed Budget (including Mayoral and Councillor allowances) and Revenue and Rating Plan commences on 28 April 2021. The proposed Budget outlines the services, initiatives and major initiatives to be funded for the 2021-22 financial year.
Notice is hereby given in accordance with sections 74 (1) and (4) and 223 of the Local Government Act 1989 (the Act) that Boroondara City Council is to undertake a review and determine the level of Mayoral and Councillor Allowances.
Council resolved at its meeting 26 April 2021 to give notice of its intention to review allowances and proposed a:
- Mayoral allowance of $100,434
- Councillor allowance of $31,444
(plus an amount equivalent to the superannuation guarantee which is currently 9.5% and scheduled to increase to 10% on 1 July 2021).
From 28 April 2021 copies of the Proposed Budget and Revenue and Rating Plan will be available for inspection during normal business hours at the Camberwell office at 8 lnglesby Road, Camberwell, Hawthorn Customer Service at 360 Burwood Road at the Hawthorn Arts Centre, as well as Kew, Ashburton, Balwyn, Camberwell and Hawthorn Libraries, on our website at Council Budget or by emailing [email protected].
Written submissions about the Proposed Budget (including Mayoral and Councillor allowances) and Revenue and Rating Plan are invited from the public. Submissions will be received until 5pm on Wednesday 26 May 2021. Submissions should be marked "Proposed Budget", "Proposed Revenue and Rating Plan" or "Proposed Allowances" and can be made:
Anyone wishing to speak to Council in support of their submission should indicate so in their submission. Submissions will be heard by Council at a meeting of Council to be held on Monday 7 June 2021 at 6.30pm.
Unless indicated otherwise, submissions will be presented to Council including the submitter's name. Details of submissions may also be included within the official Council Agenda and Minutes which are a permanent public record and may also be made available on our website.
Submissions and personal information will be managed by Council in accordance with the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014.
All submissions received for the proposed Budget 2021-22 and Revenue and Rating Plan 2021-25 will be considered by Council in accordance with Council's Community Engagement Policy 2021-26.
All submissions received for the Mayoral and Councillor allowances will be considered by Council in accordance with Section 223 of the Local Government Act 1989.
Subject to any changes resulting from consideration of community submissions, the proposed Budget 2021-22 (including Mayoral and Councillor allowances) and Revenue and Rating Plan 2021-25 will be adopted at a council meeting to be held on Monday 28 June 2021 at 6.30pm. The council meeting will be streamed live through our website.
