Over the last week, there has been a lot of media coverage regarding the demolition of 368 Auburn Road, Hawthorn.

Council was not able to prevent the demolition of this house because the Minister for Planning introduced an amendment which functions as a loophole to allow the demolition of properties we identified as having heritage significance.

This loophole exists in spite of the interim Heritage Overlays that the very same Minister had approved for dwellings in the City of Boroondara.

The Minister has the power to remove this loophole, and we have formally asked him to remove it 4 times.

Put simply, this issue only exists because of an amendment the Minister has introduced. It is also an amendment he has the power to remove.
