The City of Boroondara today paid tribute to former Councillor Keith Walter AM, who died last week.
Mr Walter was the inaugural councillor for the Solway ward when the City of Boroondara was formed in 1996 and served in that position until 2004.
He was elected Mayor of Boroondara for the 1997/98 Mayoral term and was a councillor of one of Boroondara’s predecessor Councils, the City of Camberwell, from 1992 to 1993.
Cr Jim Parke, the Mayor of Boroondara, said that Mr Walter had represented the ratepayers of Solway very well during his time on Council.
“He was a fierce advocate on behalf of his community, was very thorough in his preparation for Council planning decisions and always had community services at the forefront of his mind - exactly what communities need in a local councillor,” he said.
Mr Walter was very active in the Scouting movement and with Kew Rotary.
He will be farewelled at a funeral service on Friday 9 February.
