The City of Boroondara has welcomed the Parliamentary Inquiry into the Victorian Government’s Public Housing Renewal Program and called for no contracts to be signed on any public housing redevelopments until the inquiry is complete.

Councillor Phillip Healey, Mayor of Boroondara, said that the Victorian Government’s approach is flawed and needs to be scrapped.

The Victorian Government is proposing to redevelop two public housing estates in Boroondara - Markham Estate in Ashburton and Bills Street in Hawthorn - where it is proposed to increase public housing by 10 per cent, with the remainder of the development comprising hundreds of private dwellings in multi-level apartments.

Council has serious concerns about the model and the process.
