The City of Boroondara has opened a brand new community hub in Balwyn North. Greythorn Community Hub is on the former North Balwyn RSL site at 2 Centre Way, Balwyn North.
In addition to housing the RSL, the Hub contains a new neighbourhood house, a library lounge, an expanded childcare centre, a maternal and child health service, community meeting and function rooms for hire and community support and wellbeing services.
Greythorn Community Hub hosted its Grand Opening event on Saturday 1 September 2018, 10am to 1pm, with official proceedings commencing at 10.30am.
This event gave everyone the opportunity to explore the hub and get involved in free activities, including live music and entertainment, table tennis, virtual reality, kids’ art activities and much more.
The Mayor of Boroondara Cr Jim Parke, President of the North Balwyn RSL Graham Foard and Secretary of the North Balwyn RSL Gwenda Foard toured the new Greythorn Community Hub ahead of the Grand Opening event.
Mayor of Boroondara Councillor Jim Parke said, “The City of Boroondara talked to the local community in Balwyn North at every stage of the design and construction of the Greythorn Community Hub, and I’m looking forward to seeing people from the area using the services and facilities.”
The City of Boroondara has spent $13.9 million to provide these much needed services to Balwyn North, the Australian Government invested $3.2 million in the project and the RSL provided the City of Boroondara with a long-term lease agreement.
President of the North Balwyn RSL Graham Foard said, “The RSL is delighted with the new facilities that we’ll be able to use, and we’re excited to share the building with all of these new services.”
Secretary of the North Balwyn RSL Gwenda Foard said, “The RSL entered into a partnership with the City of Boroondara to redevelop our site and open it up to Balwyn North residents. It’s wonderful to see the RSL in the heart of this community facility.”
