The City of Boroondara is helping local businesses host Ride2Work Day breakfasts on Wednesday 12 October 2016.
Held annually in spring, National Ride2Work Day is the largest celebration of commuter riding in Australia. It celebrates the benefits of riding to work and brings together the communities that support it.
Mayor of Boroondara, Councillor Jim Parke said the first 20 local businesses to register a Ride2Work Day breakfast would receive a $50 voucher for catering and a prize pack with maps and information to help get staff pedalling.
"Ride2Work Day is all about normalising the idea of riding to work and encouraging more people to do it on a regular basis," Cr Parke said.
"By hosting a breakfast, local businesses can inspire people who have never ridden to work to give it a go, and help frequent riders stay motivated.
"By registering with Council, businesses will also go into the draw to win $1,000 to spend on items such as bike parking, tools, pumps and other accessories or infrastructure.
"Businesses who have 10 or more staff participate in Ride2Work Day could win a $300 voucher for dinner at a local restaurant!"
Cr Parke continued, saying more than 150,000 Australians are expected to demonstrate the power of the pedal on Ride2Work Day 2016.
“Riding to work is a great way to fit in exercise on the way to and from work, and is something that can easily fit around a busy work schedule and family commitments.
"It can also help people get active, de-stress and save money on petrol and parking."
