The newly curated Hawthorn Makers Market, which evolved from the Hawthorn Craft Market, will be launched on Sunday 8 April 2018 from 10am to 3pm at the Hawthorn Arts Centre at 360 Burwood Road Hawthorn.

The market will feature over 70 stalls offering bespoke fashion, jewellery, art, homewares, artisan food and children’s products.

Mayor of Boroondara, Cr Jim Parke, said that the market is an avenue for creative designers, artisans and craftspeople to showcase their talent.

“We are proud to support local artists and designers and look forward to many successful businesses growing from these grassroots beginnings,” Cr Parke said.

On behalf of the City of Boroondara, the Rotary Club of Camberwell manages the Hawthorn Makers Market.

“We are fortunate to have passionate and dedicated community members who step up and manage the day-to-day operation of the market,” Cr Parke said.

“This partnership enables proceeds from the market to go towards supporting community projects within Boroondara to help tackle issues like homelessness, family violence, drug abuse, educational disadvantage and social isolation.”

The market will be held on the first Sunday of the month at the Hawthorn Arts Centre.

“The former Hawthorn Craft Market started in 1979 at the then Hawthorn Town Hall. It is fitting to bring the refreshed market back to its original home as an updated, curated makers market. This time around the market will be set in the contemporary and outdoor section of the Hawthorn Arts Centre,” Cr Parke said.

“While you are there, make a day of it. Drop in to the Town Hall Gallery and check out the latest exhibition by local artists and community groups or continue on your shopping journey to Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn. It’s a great starting point to explore a little piece of Boroondara.”

Glenferrie Ward Councillor, Cr Steve Hurd, said, “It’s very exciting to have the market back at Hawthorn. Come along and support artists and designers whose livelihood is made possible through the local makers markets.”
