Boroondara Libraries is embracing new technology. Our library is going digital and we’re taking the community with us.
The Boroondara Library Service offers a huge range of hands-on sessions at all its libraries to teach members to use an ipad or a computer, to turn photos into digital memories, explore the world of virtual reality, learn to code, to shop online, use apps and much more.
Members can also access a wide range of digital content including:
- music or audio books
- films and documentaries from around the world
- eBooks, newspapers and magazines in English and other languages
- free online courses
- family history and the history of local houses.
“We’re upskilling our community too to make sure no one misses the digital revolution.” said Cr Phillip Healey, Mayor of Boroondara.
The Boroondara Library Service allows its members to explore its collection from the comfort of home or while they’re on the go.
“A flight overseas, visiting the gym, a trip to the beach or a quiet weekend at home - wherever our library members go the library can go with them,” Cr Healey said.
Members can also book a computer and access free wifi at all Boroondara libraries.
“As well as being a digital hub, the Library Service remains a vibrant community place that inspires ideas, lifelong learning and a love of reading,” Cr Healey said.
A central community meeting place, last year there were 1,083,492 visits; 37000 people attended over 1000 programs and 2,362,324 print and digital items were loaned and volunteers delivered 37000 items through the home library service program.
“With over 150 years of continuous service to the community, the Boroondara Library Service is as relevant today as it was when it started,” Cr Healey said.
