City of Boroondara launched Walk to School month in Ashburton today, encouraging kids to walk, ride and scoot to school to help kids build healthy habits for life.

Families and schools were able to enjoy a healthy breakfast, take part in activities and learn more about the importance of the program.

Mayor of Boroondara Cr Jim Parke said supporting the VicHealth program is an important initiative as it encourages children to stay healthy.

“The Walk to School program is one way we can support our community to be active and to stay healthy.

”As well as the benefits to their health, kids who use active travel also learn develop their social skills. They also reduce environmental pollution and reduce traffic around schools.”

“Supporting the program is important to Council and I encourage families to keep building healthy habits once the program ends.”

The Walk to School program aligns with one of the key strategic objectives in the Boroondara Community Plan. The plan promotes and increases active and environmentally sustainable travel options.
