Are you interested in volunteering, but not sure where to start?
Then the Boroondara Volunteer Expo on Wednesday 7 March is a fantastic introduction to the many and varied volunteering opportunities in our community.
Held at the Hawthorn Arts Centre, this free event will feature stalls hosted by representatives from over 50 local organisations looking for volunteers just like you, all in the one convenient place.
Attendees can pick up information and chat to members from each of the community organisations, and find out about the different volunteering opportunities available across a diverse range of sectors including the environment, the aged, education, children, health and much more.
Cr Jim Parke, Mayor of Boroondara, encouraged those who are curious about volunteering to come along to the Volunteer Expo to find out more.
“Volunteering can be very flexible and work around your schedule and existing commitments, there really are so many different ways to help out.”
“You might be able to use a special skill to help on a one-off or project basis, like marketing or graphic design for a charity event, prefer to volunteer every now and then, or even on an ongoing basis at a specific time each week.”
“Whatever your preferences and skills, you’ll be sure to find something that suits you at the Boroondara Volunteer Expo”.
The Boroondara Volunteer Expo is now in its 13th year, and has become an annual fixture for both volunteer organisations and prospective volunteers alike, in a community that shows a strong desire to contribute.
In fact, the 2016 Census revealed that 26% of Boroondara residents said they performed voluntary work, significantly higher than the 17% of residents across Greater Melbourne.
The Boroondara Volunteer Expo will be held from 1-6pm on Wednesday 7 March at the Hawthorn Arts Centre, 360 Burwood Road.
