The City of Boroondara is inviting the community to celebrate Children’s Week, with three free family events planned from 21-29 October.
On Saturday 21 October, Hawthorn Community House will host an exciting family fun day featuring craft and puppet workshops, active transport activities and the much-loved YMCA Playnasium - an incredible twist on everyday gym equipment, where parents can exercise while simultaneously playing and bonding with their kids. Council staff will also be on hand to provide information on local services available for families and children.
With toilet training and bedwetting a common issue for many young families, parents are invited to a special Children’s Week forum on the topic on Tuesday 24 October at 7pm at the Parkview Room (next to the Camberwell Library). This is a wonderful opportunity to receive expert advice on helping your child through this often tricky transitional period, and chat with other parents.
The final event planned for Children’s Week is the Ride ‘n’ Scoot day at Kew Traffic School on Friday 27 October, where children aged from 2 to 10 and their families can bring along their bikes or scooters and enjoy a fun and educational day.
With roundabouts, intersections, traffic lights, street signs, railway crossings and mini trams, the Kew Traffic School is a great place for children to gain confidence and develop road safety skills, away from the dangers of real traffic.
There is another fun family event that is coincidentally running during Children’s Week - the Emergency Services Display Day from 8am to 1pm on Saturday 21 October at the Boroondara Farmers Market. This event is designed to celebrate Community Safety Month, and is a fantastic opportunity to explore high-tech emergency vehicles, and learn more about community safety and the amazing work of our emergency services teams.
