In celebration of National Families Week in May, YMCA Victoria brought “Playnasium” to the City of Boroondara.
Playnasium is an innovative new way to be active that brings “playtime” to “gym time”, so that parents/carers and kids can have fun and be active together. Playnasium transforms regular gym machines by turning the weight of your child, into your weights, so they can play whilst you get a workout.
With YMCA staff on hand to demonstrate how the Playnasium can be used, many parents took the opportunity to get some exercise and engage with their children at the same time. The two pieces of Playnasium equipment on display was the popular Peek A Boo; designed to work the parents shoulders and chest and the Row, Row, Row; designed to target the muscles in the back, legs and core.
Area Manager for the YMCA, Nathan Costin said that the YMCA Playnasium turns your child’s happiness into your motivation for health.
“Research has shown that active parents have children who are more likely to be active and the Playnasium provides an opportunity for families to be active together”.
The day also included free events for all ages included Tiny Tots Storytime, a Lego workshop by Young Engineers and a Building Happy Healthy Kids information session.
National Families Week is an initiative of Families Australia and celebrates the vital role that families play in building a stronger Boroondara.
