From 1 September to 15 October 2021, we'll be getting our parks and sportsgrounds ready for growing season with our weed management program.

This program aims to:

  • improve the appearance of our parks, sportsgrounds and green spaces
  • reduce the spread of weed seeds
  • provide a safer surface for people using these locations
  • improve the health and quality of turf.

As part of our weed management program we'll spray selective herbicides, which are regulated by the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Act 1994. This ensures that the herbicides don't pose an unacceptable risk to human health and the environment. Our staff will follow the safety data sheets for the products and wear the recommended personal protective equipment. For more information about these herbicides, visit the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority website.

For those planning daily exercise, all spraying will be finished by 3 pm on the days selected for each location. However, there will be some exceptions based on site conditions and weather.

To help you plan your activities, we'll be installing signage that shows:

  • the days when we plan to spray
  • whether spraying is currently taking place
  • if spraying has taken place and is now complete.
