All through October, we celebrated the Victorian Seniors Festival in Boroondara. Over 1,000 people participated in Council’s six major free events this year, as well as many more at the 60+ events hosted by local community groups.
Attendees enjoyed having access to more events in their local area, with this year’s festival taking place at venues across the municipality.
They also appreciated the diverse programming which offered opportunities to get involved in new and exciting activities. From an exquisite performance of the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra’s string quartet, to watching film, learning about gardening, cooking demonstrations and ballroom dancing, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
Festivalgoers shared their thoughts about this year’s events by completing a short survey - and some of the feedback was fantastic:
- “Everything was perfect, thank you to the organisers.”
- “Such a great atmosphere for everyone.”
- “Staff were very kind and professional; just a beautiful day.”
- “Excellent presentations from the knowledgeable speakers.”
We would like to say a special thank you to 18 of Boroondara’s centenarians who attended our 18th Annual Centenarians Luncheon. This event is held during Seniors Festival each year to celebrate the remarkable lives of Boroondara residents aged 100 years and over, to thank them for the many contributions they have made to our City.
Council is committed to helping older residents get involved with their local community - not only during Seniors Festival, but all year round. The Over 55s section of our website lists nearly 600 health and wellbeing events and activities for older residents. We encourage you to browse them and find something to suit your lifestyle.
Thank you to everyone who got involved in this year’s Seniors Festival in Boroondara. We look forward to seeing you again in October 2020.
