Pedestrian and cyclist access near Walmer Street and Shamrock Street in Abbotsford will be restricted from 13 January 2020 because of landscaping works along the riverbank.
Landowner Salta Properties must complete these works (west of Walmer Street) as part of planning permission granted by the Minister of Planning. The works are being undertaken by Icon.
Works start dates and access restrictions
Due to the scale of the works, the track running along the south side of the river will be closed between Walmer Street and Shamrock Street from 13 January 2020, reopening in November 2020.
The switchback ramp located on the west of Walmer Street will also be temporarily closed to enable demolition of the display suite directly next to it. The Walmer Street bridge will remain open to cyclists and pedestrians.
At this stage, the switchback ramp will be closed between 7.00am-6.00pm Monday to Friday and 9.00am-3.00pm Saturdays on the following dates:
- from 16 to 18 January
- from 20 to 25 January
- from 29 January to 5 February.
The switchback ramp will be closed only when necessary and spotters will be present during these times to allow anyone who cannot use the stairs to access the ramp.
