OUTAGE: Website maintenance April 2024

Our website will be unavailable from 5 to 8 pm on Tuesday 23 April due to planned maintenance.

With not long left until this year’s dad’s day celebration (this Sunday 3 September) we’ve pulled together some ideas to help you prepare for the occasion and support local businesses at the same time.

Whether you’re looking for a last-minute present, seeking some quality ingredients for a home-cooked meal or want to find somewhere to dine out, your local Boroondara shops, cafes, restaurants and markets have got you covered!

Tip 1: Check out local eateries to dine out

Take dad on a dining adventure somewhere new in Boroondara. Pick a café or restaurant he hasn’t been to before or revisit an old favourite you haven’t been to lately.

Pro tip: With Father’s Day being a popular day for brunching and lunching, call ahead to book – and consider booking for dinner as a nice way to end the day.

Tip 2: Shop local for a unique gift

With a range of stores across Boroondara’s shopping villages, you’re bound to pick up the perfect gift. Many independent food and drink sellers and retail stores sell specialty products you won’t find elsewhere. You can also consider gifting an experience like a cinema gift voucher for the movie-loving family member or perhaps a personal training gym voucher for the active dads.

Tip 3: Picnic in the park

If the spring weather behaves and your meal is easily transportable, why not take your celebration to the park. Check out some favourite picnic spots shared by locals.

Tip 4: Find a last-minute gift at Hawthorn Makers Market

If you leave your gift buying to the absolute final moment, you’re in luck! The monthly Hawthorn Makers Market is running on Sunday 3 September at Hawthorn Arts Centre from 10 am to 3 pm. It’s the perfect place to pick up a handmade gift and enjoy a wander too.

Tip 5: Get a home-cooked feast on the menu

If your style is to cook up a feast at home, don’t forget you can pick up a great selection of fresh, local produce at the Boroondara Farmers Market, open from 8 am to 12:30 pm on Saturday 2 September. The Camberwell Fresh Food Market is also open from 7 am to 5 pm on Saturday.
