Studley ward Councillor Phillip Healey has been elected Mayor of the City of Boroondara for the next 12 months.
Cr Steve Hurd, Glenferrie ward Councillor, and Cr Garry Thompson, who was recently elected as Solway ward councillor, will chair the Services Special Committee of Council.
Cr Hurd will take up the role for the first 6 months and will be followed by Cr Thompson, who will assume responsibility for the second 6 months.
Outgoing mayor, Cr Jim Parke, will chair the Urban Planning Special Committee in 2016/17.
Cr Healey said he was honoured to be elected Mayor by his fellow councillors. This will be his second term as Mayor, having held the position in 2006/07.
“It is a great honour to be elected Mayor and to have the opportunity to lead such a talented group of people,” he said.
“I am keen to complete our strategic planning, to prepare our first budget and to get the council working for our community as quickly as possible,” he said.
At Council elections held last month, 6 councillors who nominated were re-elected and 4 new councillors were elected.
