Men’s Health Week is an annual initiative, which runs from 13-19 June 2022.

We are hosting a number of free events to support men’s overall wellbeing and build connections through family, community, culture, and friendship.

The campaign highlights the importance of men’s health and promotes the health and wellbeing of men in Boroondara.

These events support our Boroondara Community Plan 2021-31, in which residents told us that mental health and social connection are priority areas for our community.

On average, one in 8 men will experience depression and one in 5 men will experience anxiety at some stage of their lives (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2020).

With COVID-19 continuing to influence the way we live, work and socialise, it’s more important than ever for men in our community to reach out and seek support when needed.

Cooking together – Men’s Health Week recipe cards

Did you know as little as two per cent of male residents in Boroondara eat enough vegetables?

We are sharing nutritious recipes and stories from seven men in our community. From mountain pepper fish to Jewish home-remedy chicken soup, our recipe cards outline the ingredients you need and the steps to follow to create authentic recipes you can enjoy with others.

Along with new flavours, you’ll also learn about the important role food plays in bringing friends, family and the community together.

We know how important walking is to help manage and improve overall wellness.

We’re partnering with YMCA to invite dads and children to take part in a 2km family walk on Sunday 12 June 2022 from 9.30 am.

Starting at Ashburton Pool and Recreation Centre and finishing at Mr Burton café, the event provides an opportunity for men to get together to walk, talk and support each other.

You will also get a free coffee or smoothie and a baby chino at the finish line.
