As part of our commitment to our precious native habitats and wildlife, we partner with ‘friends’ groups: groups of community members who volunteer their time, skills and knowledge to help maintain and improve their local biodiversity sites.

Some examples of the positive difference friends’ groups make to Boroondara’s environment include the revegetation of South Surrey Park, the restoration of the Ashburton Forest, and their work along the once-depleted Gardiners Creek, which has helped to create a functioning biodiversity corridor, alive with birds and locally native plants.

Of course, restoring and protecting our diverse indigenous flora and fauna is a mighty and ongoing mission, and friends groups are always happy to welcome new members. Besides improving the local environment, you’ll meet like-minded people, stay active, learn new skills and enjoy the great outdoors.

Some might even say that volunteering with a Friends group offers the best of both worlds.
