COVID-19: in-person events may change and there are changes to council services.

We are delighted to announce the 2020 Boroondara Eisteddfod will go ahead from April to June.

The Boroondara Eisteddfod is a much-loved community event, showcasing incredible talent from musicians of all ages. This year’s competition will take place online, allowing entrants to participate in the Eisteddfod, with the wider community able to view a selection of performances via the web.

Sadly, Eisteddfods across Australia have been postponed or cancelled due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. We hope our revised approach of a digital Eisteddfod will provide a meaningful focus for many, particularly our school-aged entrants, during an otherwise uncertain time.

How a digital Eisteddfod works

Entrants would usually perform live at Hawthorn Arts Centre to adjudicators.

This year, solo entrants will be able to upload a video of their performance to our newly created digital submission platform for adjudicators to review. Upon assessment, adjudicator reports will then be distributed to entrants of each section. Results will be published online within one week of the performance.

Restrictions such as accompaniment requirements will be lifted, and accompanists will be able to record and transfer accompaniments directly to competitors, if required. For those entrants wishing to share their work, an online gallery of selected videos will be created for the wider community to view and enjoy.

We can’t wait to see the performances our Boroondara Eisteddfod entrants submit and are so pleased that “the show will go on” in 2020.
