After many months of community involvement in workshops, online, by phone and with postcards, we received a strong response from 11,845 community members, which shaped the development of the Boroondara Community Plan 2017-27. This is our 10-year vision for the future of Boroondara and we are now proud to be launching it to the community.

We started in November 2016 by asking what was important to you for our City’s future. This open-ended question enabled us to hear about all of the issues that matter most to our community.

From your responses, we identified seven priority themes which form the basis for the 10-year plan. These are: Your community, services and facilities; Your parks and green spaces; The environment; Neighbourhood character and heritage; Getting around Boroondara; Your local shops and businesses; and Civic leadership and Governance.

Knowing so clearly what is important to you helped us to develop a plan that aligns with current and future community priorities and aspirations - a blueprint that will guide us in delivering what you told us you wanted. In fact, I consider the Boroondara Community Plan an example of what can be achieved when Council and community collaborate and I thank you for your input.

Having formally adopted the Boroondara Community Plan in December, we now invite you to join us at the Boroondara Village Festival, a special launch event celebrating all the things that make our community so great.

From 12noon to 4pm on Sunday 4 March, the historic Hawthorn Arts Centre will be transformed into a festival, with live music, activities and workshops to entertain and delight locals of all ages. From beekeeping demonstrations and free health checks, to virtual reality experiences and a special performance from Peppa Pig, there will be something for everyone at this free, fun-filled event.

Thank you to all who contributed to the development of the Boroondara Community Plan. We look forward to delivering what’s important to you over the next 10 years for the benefit of everybody who lives, works, studies and plays in Boroondara.

With best wishes

Cr Jim Parke Mayor of Boroondara
