From Saturday 7 October to Thursday 19 October, the Victorian Seniors Festival returns to Boroondara, and I’m looking forward to joining residents and their families and friends at this annual celebration.

Featuring a plethora of activities and events ranging from concerts, exercise classes and educational sessions, to dancing, games, luncheons and multicultural gatherings, the Seniors Festival is an ideal opportunity to celebrate the contribution older people have made and continue to make to our community.

According to the 2016 Australian Census, 21.3% of Boroondara residents are aged 60 years or older, a noticeably higher proportion than the Greater Melbourne average for this age group (19%). Our senior residents enjoy living in a municipality that’s easy to get around and offers them a wealth of ways to stay active, independent and involved in local life.

We believe that residents of all ages benefit from keeping active, getting involved, learning new skills and staying connected with their community. Every day, people come together all over our city for bus excursions, volunteer activities, seniors’ clubs, exercise groups, Men’s Sheds and more.

The Victorian Seniors Festival in Boroondara encapsulates this spirit of active, social involvement. The festival theme this year is “You’re welcome” -- and whether you join us at our free festival launch concert, or at one (or more) of the many other inspiring community-run events on the festival program, we’re sure you’ll find the welcome warm!

Pick up your copy of the program at any Boroondara City Council office, library, or local neighbourhood house, or download it from our website.
