I’m proud to announce that Council’s work in creating an age-friendly city was recognised at the Australian Government’s Better Practice Awards.
During an award ceremony in Sydney, our ‘Creating an Age-Friendly Boroondara’ strategy was presented with a National Innovation and Excellence award, which acknowledged the successes our strategy made through programs including:
- Casserole Club
- Telling Tales
- Walk, Rest, Talk
- Adult outdoor fitness equipment
- Share, Care and Connect
- New over 55s section on the website – Add Life to Your Years
- Dementia Friendly Community
- Annual Age Friendly Forum
These vital services have been developed to meet the diverse and changing needs of our older adult community and have been directly told to us through our 2017-21 Boroondara Community Plan.
Soon, Council will publically launch a new section for over 55s on our website to empower our older community members to access more than 500 programs, activities and services across Boroondara.
Delivering what’s important to our community is central to our work. I’d like to congratulate our Active Ageing and Disability department for this significant achievement and for helping sustain Boroondara’s status as an age-friendly city.
