How to become a volunteer

This month marks National Volunteer Week (16 to 22 May), where we celebrate and thank volunteers who generously donate their time to help the community.

Boroondara has one of the strongest rates of volunteering in Melbourne, with more than a quarter of residents engaging in some form of volunteering, playing an integral role in delivering essential community services.

Council is committed to supporting volunteers through the Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre (BVRC), which connects prospective volunteers with roles and provides networking events and professional development for local community organisations.

This year, BVRC is celebrating its milestone 30-year anniversary and acknowledges the enormous contribution and selfless work that past and present volunteers have made to our community. BVRC partners with more than 330 volunteer programs and in 2021 made more than 2,400 role referrals to diverse volunteers who provide invaluable support to events and programs.

Whether you’re a student, professional or retiree, there is a range of volunteering roles available across Boroondara. From protecting our parks to delivering meals, providing administrative support, being on a board or teaching recreation and sport classes, the BVRC team can help find something to suit your interests and will work around other commitments.
