Winter is prime time at your library

There’s no better time of year to cosy up in the library, with plenty going on to reward a visit.

2022 Library and Information Week

Library and Information Week runs from 25 to 31 July and celebrates the programs, resources and services libraries provide. Whether it’s borrowing a book, e-book or audiobook, attending a Family History Group or booking a meeting room, our libraries have something for everyone.

Our 6 libraries house the second largest collection of physical and e-books in the state, with more than 32,000 items having been added this year.

The theme for Library and Information Week 2022 is Rewrite, Renew and Reimagine. It aims to empower library members to reflect on old narratives, rewrite their own stories and seek a different perspective.

To become a library member, visit the Join online page in our Library catalogue.

Book Week 2022

Our librarians are dusting off their costumes, picking out their favourite books and preparing fun activities to celebrate Book Week 2022, from 20 to 26 August.

A tradition since 1945, Book Week brings children and books together to shine a light on Australian authors and illustrators. The theme for this year is Dreaming with Eyes Open, an acknowledgement of Australia’s First Nations People and their rich storybased culture.

You’re invited to a special storytime session at Ashburton Library on Saturday 27 August. Dress as a story character, listen to some of our favourite stories and get your face painted.

To find out more about Storytime sessions, visit our Library events page.

1000 Books Before School

Sharing stories with pre-school children is a fun way to establish a lifelong love of reading, learning and discovery.

Our 1000 Books Before School program begins on 1 August and encourages parents and pre-school children to start their literacy journey by committing to reading 1000 books together before the first day of school. Whether it’s a book you’ve read together at home, a story from kinder or a library storytime session book, log them in your 1000 Books Before School reading passport, complete activities and earn rewards along the way.

There is no fee to join – simply register, collect your starter pack from 1 August and start reading. You can find out more on our 1000 Books Before School page.
