How to support local businesses in lockdown

Whether you’re on the hunt for the perfect takeaway dinner, special meal ingredient or online buy, Boroondara’s shopping precincts have plenty to offer.

Boroondara is home to more than 50 shopping strips filled with boutique retailers and diverse dining options. Now more than ever, it’s important to support our businesses – whether that’s in person when COVID-19 restrictions allow, or via online shopping or takeaway.

Fresh produce markets

Make your way through Camberwell Fresh Food Market to select from fresh fruit and vegetables, seafood, rare cheeses, and other delicacies. Many traders offer click and collect or delivery options as well as contactless payments. If produce straight from the farm is your thing, head to Boroondara Farmers Market at Patterson Reserve, Hawthorn East.

It’s held on the first, third (and fifth) Saturday of the month and is permitted to operate during lockdowns. Shop for everything from herbs to honey, eggs, olives, cakes, bread, wine and beer.

Take it away

Many of our much-loved hospitality businesses have been able to continue operating despite restrictions by offering takeaway coffees, meals, produce boxes and grocery items. Check out what your favourite business has to offer online, or give them a ring.

Artisan crafts

Hawthorn Makers Market, held at the Hawthorn Arts Centre on the first Sunday of each month if restrictions permit, has an online market offering products from many of its makers.
