Exciting plans for the future of Maling Road

One of Boroondara’s most historic shopping precincts is set to be revitalised. Over 1,700 responses from our community, extensive research and important discussions with stakeholders have contributed to the development of the Maling Road Place Plan — an endorsed roadmap for enhancing this heritage-rich shopping strip now and into the future.

The Place Plan presents 21 real-world initiatives to create a memorable, people-centric place where the community can feel a true sense of belonging — ranging from public realm upgrades, to music performances, opportunities for outdoor dining, through to creating more greenery and community murals, to name a few.

We have already begun implementing the short-term initiatives including laneway upgrades, heritage maintenance grants and an events program to enliven the precinct and help in its recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The initiatives support the community’s collective vision for …

… Maling Road to offer a unique village feel, heritage character, a diversity of shops, and playful, vibrant and safe spaces for all to enjoy — morning to night.

Revitalising Maling Road is an ongoing, collaborative process. We will continue to work with the community to guide the design and delivery of longer term projects along the way.
