Sustainable living and backyard biodiversity

Protect our wildlife and have fun with nature

This month, you have the chance to become a citizen scientist for a week and have fun connecting with nature. Both beginners and expert birdwatchers are invited by BirdLife Australia to join the popular Aussie Backyard Bird Count from 19 to 25 October 2020.

Counting the birds in our backyards at the same time each year helps monitor important trends in the health of our environment and bird communities.

Last year, 362 local residents participated, recording 12,857 birds and 104 species. Nationally, nearly 3.4 million birds and 626 species were observed.
