Owning a dog is a big responsibility. Being a responsible dog owner means a lot more than just giving your dog what it needs, it’s also about how you manage your dog around other people and other dogs, including in off-leash areas.
We have received many complaints relating to unruly dogs disrupting others in public spaces, and owners not picking up after their pets. To help address these issues, we are ramping up patrols in our parks and reserves.
The laws that apply to dog owners are in place to ensure our furry friends and others can safely enjoy these shared spaces together. Fines apply for breaching these rules.
A responsible dog owner must have effective control of their dog at all times, including in off-leash areas. This means your dog must not worry or threaten any person or animal, and will respond to voice commands or hand controls when needed.
