Did you know number plate theft can enable serious crimes like robbery, ram raids, drug trafficking and petrol theft?
Having your plates stolen is more than just a nuisance.
Number plate theft is a serious crime and must be reported to Victoria Police. It’s then important to get new plates from VicRoads, change your registration details and give this information to your car insurance, toll road operators and parking companies.
Meanwhile, offenders may accrue large fines in your name and unfortunately the burden is on you to prove that you did not commit these offences.
You can help prevent it
At the Safer Boroondara event, you can learn about crime prevention tactics that are both practical and informative.
There will be free activities on the day including:
- installation of one-way number plate screws to deter thefts
- Coffee with a Cop, your opportunity to informally chat with Boroondara Police about issues of concern
- show bags with community safety and crime prevention.
This event is delivered by the City of Boroondara in partnership with Victoria Police – Boroondara, Boroondara Neighbourhood Watch and Neighbourhood Houses Boroondara. It is funded by the Victorian Government’s Community Crime Prevention Program.
