Join the Christmas festivities

While some of our more traditional Christmas celebrations may not be happening due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are determined to still bring you the usual festive cheer with some exciting events planned.

For the first time, residents will be able to tune in at 4pm on Friday 18 December to a spectacular Christmas concert from the comfort of home.

The family-friendly concert will feature lively musical performances from favourites like Sylvie Paladino and other talents from  Boroondara and beyond, plus a special appearance from you know who! You can also enjoy a variety of other in-person and online activities including:

  • Christmas Magic on Glenferrie event with festive lighting and live music
  • Family Christmas cooking classes
  • Christmas storytime events for children
  • Creative activities to make and do at home.

See the colourful spectacle of Christmas decorations across the municipality, including Hawthorn Arts Centre, Kew Court House and Camberwell Municipal Offices decorated with spectacular lights, and Boroondara’s signature Christmas trees at Beswicke Square, Hawthorn and the Camberwell Library forecourt.

The Chryssikos family from Camberwell

Angela and her husband Jim, and their seven-year-old twins, Lucas and Zoe, are among the residents excited about Christmas and all the events happening across the neighbourhood.

“For Christmas we would normally start the day by opening the gifts Santa has delivered and enjoy a light brekkie at home. Then the rest of the day is about extended family and lots of food!” Angela said.

“We will also be ensuring that we shop local. We just love the Burke Road shopping precinct and we have tried to support all the local cafes and restaurants throughout the lockdown period. We will continue to do so over the festive season,” she said.

“Christmas is all about lights, music and magic so we are very much looking forward to Christmas Magic on Glenferrie with festive lighting and live music”.

Annual Gift Giving Program

We are pleased to be partnering with local community organisation You Matter for this year’s annual gift giving program.

You can donate a new book or purchase a gift card from one of our local businesses and the next time you visit your local library, please bring it to leave with staff.

All books and gift cards donated will be given to local community organisation You Matter, which provides relocation assistance to children and caregivers who have left their family home as a result of domestic violence.
