Coronavirus update 13 March 2020

Stage 4 restrictions: guidance and support.

Message from the Mayor, Cr Cynthia Watson

Welcome to the December 2019/January 2020 Boroondara Bulletin, my first as Mayor.

We live in a special place where people care deeply about our City. We treasure our parks and gardens, our heritage homes and our vibrant public spaces. I share your passion and care for Boroondara and it is my privilege to serve the community. You are at the heart of everything I do.

If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a team to deliver the little things we value every day – borrowing a library book, immunising your child, picking up your rubbish bin. I am excited by the opportunity to continue the work of those who built and cared for the beautiful City we love. I am also proud to lead an exceptional group of Councillors, who are committed to achieving good outcomes for the community.

We have a busy 12 months ahead of us with some major projects in the pipeline, including:

  • the commencement of food organics and garden organics collections, commonly known as ‘FOGO’. From May 2020, residents will be able to put food waste and garden waste in the same bin, removing an estimated 19,000 tonnes of waste from landfill annually
  • the redevelopment of the Kew Recreation Centre, with a final floor plan to be released for community feedback before the end of 2019
  • continued work on Phase 1 of the Boroondara Customer First Program, a long-term initiative to fundamentally change and improve the way residents deal with Council. The Customer First Program will make engaging with us as simple as possible, whether you are online, in person or on the phone.

On behalf of us all at the City of Boroondara, I hope you enjoy a restful Christmas break with friends and family and wish you all the best for the New Year.

Cr Cynthia Watson
Mayor of Boroondara
