Christmas is almost here, and there’s an abundance of ways you can enjoy the festive season in Boroondara. See the magnificent Christmas trees at the Hawthorn Arts Centre and Camberwell Library. Inside the Camberwell Library you’ll also find the Book Giving Tree where you can leave a book for children in need. Watch the magical light displays illuminating Council buildings across the City, or discover our residential streets that are renowned for their glittering light displays. Also, don’t forget we have 53 unique shopping centres and markets that have everything you need this Christmas.
Christmas Windows Competition
Our annual Christmas windows competition is back by popular demand.
Retailers across the City will be dressing up their shopfront windows with colourful Christmas displays, making our unique shopping centres a magical place to shop this festive season.
Vote and go in the running to win one of 5 shopping vouchers worth $200 each and support your local businesses. To participate, simply post a picture of your favourite store’s Christmas window decorations on Instagram or Facebook using the hashtag #boroondarachristmas and mention the name of the store.
The competition will run from Friday 29 November to Friday 20 December 2019.
Join the festivities
There’s always something happening at our shopping centres and Christmas is no exception. Here’s a snapshot of some of the festivities across Boroondara.
The Twilight Christmas Market is coming to Fenton Avenue from 6pm to 9pm, Friday 6 December 2019. There’ll be activities for the whole family including free rides, gift stalls, choirs, a visit from Santa and more. Get your family photo with Santa (fur babies welcome) from 10am to 2pm, Saturday 7 and 14 December 2019, Kew Court House.
Santa will be visiting Ashburton Village on Saturday 14 and 21 December 2019 and the last few days before Christmas. Enjoy the unique Christmas decorations and music, which will fill the streets.
The KristKindl festival is returning from 4pm to 9pm, Friday 6 December 2019. This free event has something for the whole family, including quality food, live entertainment and a visit from Santa!
The Village Balwyn North
Enjoy Christmas celebrations from 10am to 1pm, Saturday 7 December 2019, including Christmas music with The Three Kings, a special visit from Santa and more. You can even enjoy a free ride on a Harley just by making a purchase at any store.
The Christmas Family Day will return from 11am to 3pm, Saturday 14 December 2019. There’ll be roving street entertainers, activities and more. You can even have a free trip with Santa aboard an antique fire engine.
Greythorn Shopping Centre
Enjoy a festive feel as you do your shopping with colourful Christmas decorations adorning Greythorn Shopping Centre. With a wide shopping selection and special offers, you can pick up the perfect gift for your loved ones right around the corner from home.
Carols have been sung all around the world for centuries, making these events an extra special tradition to celebrate with family, friends and your local community. We are supporting a number of carols events across the City through the Triennial Grants program.
