Celebrating 25 years of writing: now it’s your turn

This is a special year for the Boroondara Literary Awards, as they celebrate 25 years of inspiring creative writing in our community.

Whether you’re an experienced writer or just starting out, these awards are a fantastic opportunity to showcase your talents and have your work recognised.

This annual competition is held in partnership with the Rotary Club of Balwyn and includes categories for young writers as well as adults.

Arohan Dasgupta, 10 (pictured), won second place in 2022 in the junior poetry category for his poem, A Box For Sale. Arohan, whose favourite authors include Enid Blyton and Rick Riordan, says he loves that writing poetry allows him to express his ideas 'in any way that I want to'.

'I am very excited that my poem is published in the 2022 Boroondara Literary Awards Anthology. It is great that other people will get the chance to read my poem.'

We asked Arohan if he had any advice for future entrants:

'If you like to write, entering the Boroondara Literary Awards is a great place to safely share your writing. It does not matter if you do not receive a prize. Writing for these awards should be a fun project to work on.'

Entries open Monday 3 April. For more information and to enter, visit our Boroondara Literary Awards page.
