There are presently no lights installed on the east oval at Lynden Park, which limits use of this ground over the winter months. As such, Council is proposing to install four new LED training lights at the eastern ground.
This will improve training conditions for local sporting clubs by providing a safer facility on weeknights (5pm–9pm) between April and September. It will also provide increased opportunities for passive recreation.
Benefits of this proposal
Sport and recreation plays a vital role in maintaining and improving community health and wellbeing. The Boroondara Community Plan indicates that the community values the City’s parks and green spaces and want facilities which are fit for purpose and accessible.
Boroondara has experienced increased growth of junior and female participation in sport across the municipality. It is important that Council provides facilities that encourage year-round participation. The lights will also improve the visibility of surrounding pathways for casual visitors.
LED lighting technology will provide energy efficient and environmentally friendly illumination over the eastern ground, with light spill directed to the playing surface.
While this project would support the growth of organised and informal recreation in the area, we want to minimise potential impact upon residents surrounding the park.
