Thank you to everyone who provided input on the Council's draft Economic Development and Tourism Strategy 2016-2021.

Your feedback provided us with valuable insights.

Respondents supported the strategy’s five key objectives, a focus on:

  • "best in class" neighbourhood shopping centres
  • Boroondara as a tourism destination
  • being "ready for business"
  • helping businesses establish and grow
  • Council continuing to provide leadership and foster key partnerships.

Community feedback also provided insight into top motivators for buying local which were: quality of offering, value for money, diversity of shops, accessibility, advertising and locally sourced products.

Insights into key Boroondara attractions were also sought and included: parks and gardens, shopping centres, restaurants and cafes, markets, and heritage buildings and gardens.

Due to feedback, Council will investigate the possibility of a ‘locally purchased’ certification scheme for retailers and gauge support for other local shopper reward schemes.

The strategy is a living document and we encourage feedback and ideas at any time.
