Did you know that 23.6 per cent of Boroondara residents volunteer? According to the latest ABS census data this is the highest rate of participation in the Greater Melbourne region. Given that I believe you can tell the health of a community by its level of volunteering, Boroondara must be in a very healthy state indeed.
National Volunteer Week is being celebrated throughout Australia from 9 to 15 May 2016. To reflect our City’s increasingly diverse community, the Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre (BVRC) is encouraging volunteers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to put themselves forward.
It’s also a great time to recognise the vital role played by our volunteers, and to thank them for their efforts and commitment.
This year, celebrating National Volunteer Week happens to coincide with Neighbourhood House Week. Over the next few months, the BVRC will be seeking skilled volunteers to take up a range of roles in local community organisations, including our neighbourhood houses. Volunteers with the following skills are needed – business and strategic planning, project management, human resource and legal, financial oversight, marketing and promotions, community engagement, and occupational health and safety, and risk.
For more information, contact the BVRC on 9278 4550 or [email protected].
With best wishes,
Councillor Jim Parke Mayor of Boroondara
