The Community Development directorate is made up of the following departments:
Arts and Culture
This department is responsible for performing arts, exhibitions, public programs, workshops and family events. People can enjoy Boroondara Arts at our venues - Hawthorn Arts Centre, Kew Court House and Town Hall Gallery - or through festivals and events held in streets and parks across the city. Our staff help to coordinate these events and run our Emporium shop at the Town Hall Gallery, which sells gifts made by local artists such as jewellery, fashion and household items.
Community Planning and Development
This department facilitates and promotes a healthy, cohesive, safe and inclusive community through:
- strategic and collaborative partnerships
- support for volunteering
- developing policy and strategic action plans
- social research
- supporting and celebrating people of all abilities
- building community capacity
- supporting those who are disadvantaged.
Family, Youth and Recreation
This department provides family support services including maternal and child health, family day care, youth services, counselling and support. It also manages and advises on leisure services provided by Council for the City of Boroondara community.
Finance and Corporate Planning
This department manages the corporate planning function for Council including development of the Boroondara Community Plan, Council Plan and annual report, and Council's budgets. The team manages accounts and investments and provides financial accounting services including accounts payable, payroll services and external grant application support for significant funding opportunities. It also coordinates the external audit.
Health, Active Ageing and Disability Services
This department delivers services for eligible older people and younger people with disabilities to help them live independently at home. These services include:
- home care
- personal care
- respite care
- case management
- community transport
- social participation
- community support.
The team also handles strategy and development, public health, immunisation services and emergency management (recovery).
This department operates 5 libraries across our city and caters for the educational, cultural and recreational information needs of the community. The department is responsible for providing access to physical and electronic resources as well as family, children and adult programs, a home library service and local history research assistance.
