The Boroondara Sports Awards recognise and promote clubs which are inclusive of underrepresented groups, provide community benefit, support volunteers and promote health.
Clubs will be asked to submit applications for a range of award categories. The Awards will be presented at an annual dinner to clubs that have demonstrated their commitment to supporting the community, rewarding members who have given up their time for the benefit of their community.
Once the award categories and criteria are finalised, clubs will be contacted directly with further information.
Sporting clubs play a key role in the creation of local community networks, new relationships and positive physical and mental health outcomes for members.
They do this in many ways, including:
- building communities through social inclusion and a sense of connection
- providing access to opportunities for physical activity, leading to physically and mentally healthier people
- creating opportunities for people to volunteer and impact positively on their community
- reducing social isolation by encouraging and supporting people to participate.
The Boroondara Sports Club Awards will recognise those clubs within Boroondara that are well governed, inclusive and committed to providing high levels of benefit to the community.
Encouraging sporting clubs to be more inclusive supports Council’s vision that all people in Boroondara, regardless of their circumstances, will have the opportunity and encouragement to actively participate in sport and/or recreation activities.
The total cost of this initiative is $43,600.
